Uganda Police receives a new call center funded by international partners to improve citizen access and case follow-up.

(Kampala) – The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has received a state of the- art Public Interaction Center at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Headquarters. This new call center was established through a partnership with the Government of the Netherlands and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), aiming to enhance the UPF’s communication with citizens and improve response efficiency.

The call center, soon to be officially launched, will be accessible across all police departments, not just CID. It is equipped with a toll-free number that will allow citizens throughout Uganda to contact the police with complaints and issues that require immediate attention. Calls will be routed to the relevant officers or nearest police stations, ensuring that urgent matters are addressed quickly.

In cases where a local police intervention is needed, the center will connect citizens directly with the Officer in Charge (OC) or Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations (OCID) at their closest station. This process aims to streamline response times and ensure that cases are assigned to the appropriate personnel.

The call center also includes a follow- up system. Within 24 hours of an initial call, a follow up call will be made to confirm if the caller’s issue was resolved. This additional step emphasizes accountability and transparency, allowing the UPF to monitor the quality of service and ensure citizens receive adequate assistance.

According to UPF representatives, the call center is part of a larger effort to build public trust and strengthen law enforcement’s responsiveness to citizens’ needs. The UPF acknowledged the support from the Government of the Netherlands and UNODC for making this initiative possible, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in enhancing security and justice.
