(Gomba) – Five individuals have been charged and remanded in connection with the alleged violent takeover of 600 acres of land owned by Madhvani Group Limited in Musongole Village, Gomba District.
The suspects, identified as Nuwahereza Allan Katakanya, Mudenyi Gerald, Nabimanya David, Ssenoga Abdu, and Kisenyi Harunah, were arraigned before the Gomba Chief Magistrates Court. The charges include forcible entry, forcible detainer, destroying growing plants, and conspiracy to commit misdemeanors and felonies. They are set to remain in custody until their next court appearance on November 19, 2024.
The accusations stem from events in September 2024, when the suspects, along with others still at large, allegedly used the pretext of a “boundary opening” to forcibly occupy land registered under Madhvani Group since 1955. The disputed property, comprising tea plantations and over 540 acres of natural forest, was significantly damaged during the incident.
The Anti-Corruption Unit of State House Uganda, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is continuing investigations. Authorities are particularly focused on how an overlapping land title was reportedly issued for the property in October 2024, despite the original registration dating back nearly seven decades.
If evidence confirms irregularities in the title creation process, public officials and other individuals involved will face accountability measures.
