Two Pedestrians Tragically Killed in Nakasongola Hit-and-Run Incident
Police have confirmed the tragic death of two individuals in a road crash in Nakasongola district. According to Sam Twineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah region Police, the victims, Jackline Akello and Janet Ayebare, were struck by a reckless driver while they were walking along the highway, facing oncoming traffic. The incident occurred at approximately 6 am on Saturday in Namunsaala zone, Kakooge town council.
Akello and Ayebare were employees of Euro Chick, a poultry and poultry products company based in Luweero. Akello, a 25-year-old resident of Kakooge town council in Nakasongola, lost her life in the crash.
The unidentified driver of the silver Toyota Premio (UAM 538D) involved in the incident fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. He was reportedly traveling from Nakasongola towards Gulu. The female pedestrians were on their way from Kakooge to Nabulungi for work when the speeding vehicle struck them, causing their immediate demise. Twineamazima attributed the crash to the reckless driving of the unknown driver.
The Police were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene to document the incident. The bodies of the victims were transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the vehicle involved was towed to Katugo Police Station for inspection by the inspector of vehicles. Police are actively working to apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident.
