In two different incidents, four individuals lost their lives due to hit and run motor accidents in the regions of Kyotera and Sembabule within Masaka Sub Region. The accidents occurred on Friday morning and were caused by speeding saloon cars.
One of the accidents took place at Kimukunda Trading Centre along the Kyotera-Mutukula Road. Ronald Ssempijja, a 23-year-old motorcyclist, and his passenger Abbas Ssekalema, 25, both from Kyotera District, were struck by a fast-moving saloon car with the registration number UAV 354W. Ssempijja was riding motorcycle UFH 579U. Tragically, both Ssempijja and Ssekalema died on the scene. The driver of the saloon car fled the scene after the collision.
The second accident happened at Mabindo Trading Centre along the Masaka-Bukomansimbi-Sembabule Road. Richard Musanjje, also a motorcyclist, and his passenger Christine Namayanja, residents of Sembabule District, were on motorcycle UFQ 662Y when a speeding saloon car with the registration number UBK 671Q hit them. Both Musanjje and Namayanja lost their lives immediately as a result of the crash.
According to witnesses, the common factor in both accidents was the excessive speed of the saloon cars involved. Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed these incidents and informed that the deceased have been taken to Sembabule Health Centre IV and Kakuuto Health Centre IV. Investigations into the causes of the accidents are ongoing.
Kasirye advised motorists to exercise consideration for other road users and to avoid speeding, especially near trading centres. He stated, “Our traffic team is actively searching for the vehicles and drivers involved in these separate accidents to ensure they are held accountable under the law.”
