Former IGP Kale Kayihura Cries About Being Sidelined by the Police

Rtd General Kale Kayihura has expressed his dissatisfaction with how the Uganda Police Force has excluded him from its activities, despite being a former leader of the organization. Kayihura, who served as Inspector General of Police for more than a decade, was dismissed from his position in 2018 and succeeded by Maj Gen Okoth Ochola.

While speaking to mourners at the requiem mass for another former IGP, the late John Cossy Odomel, at St Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish in Ntinda, Kayihura mentioned that he feels isolated from all official functions of the Force. He seemingly believes he has been let down by the current leadership.

During the same event, he pointed out that the late Odomel was fortunate to have been invited to Police events and was actively engaged with the law enforcement body before he passed away. Kayihura remarked that he learns about news related to the UPF just like an ordinary citizen, primarily through online news sources.

“Unlike me, he had been brought back into service. I now find myself residing in the village. I only become aware of events through online news,” Gen Kayihura stated. “Since I am never invited to your gatherings, I believe I have a reason to voice my concerns. What did I do wrong? A former IGP like myself! Am I of no value?” he queried.

He further noted that he was unaware of the passing of the late Odomel’s wife, which occurred five months prior. Kayihura also described the late IGP as an active and admirable individual.

Moreover, he urged the current Police leadership to finish the cancer diagnostic center that was initiated in 2013/14 in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, following the concerns raised by doctors that many Ugandans travel to India for cancer treatment.
