President Yoweri Museveni will address about 300 Bamasaaba at the Munyonyo Resort Hotel on the 15th and 16th of April.
This was revealed to The Ankole Times by the spokesperson for the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga, who said the president will address Bamasaaba drawn from various sectors, notably clan heads, ministers in the cultural institution, and other notable Bamasaaba who will converge at Munyonyo.
Masiga further explained that the president will communicate with the community and guide both elders and youths in the establishment of the cultural institution, focusing on issues such as taking government programs seriously for economic empowerment, patriotism, living harmoniously as a community, and the role of the family in nation-building. “Of course, you know the president is at liberty to guide us on anything he deems necessary for our well-being as a cultural institution,” Masiga concluded.
Masiga also mentioned that the cultural leader of the Bamasaaba people will address his subjects in Munyonyo before the president steps in.
The delegation from Masaabaland to Munyonyo will be coordinated by Hon. Irene Manghali, the Commissioner for Public Engagements in Inzu ya Masaaba, and the criteria for who will attend will be followed according to the guidance of Family Peace Uganda under the leadership of Mr. Ezra Bakundika, the executive head.
Recently, the Sebaruli was in Masaabaland bidding the Bamasaaba people farewell, as he will be handing over the chairmanship of the Uganda Kings Association to another cultural or traditional leader who will be elected soon. His Royal Highness Mwogezi Butamanya was in Mbale recently, accompanied by the Executive Director of Family Peace Organization, Mr. Ezra Bakundika, who is the initiator of the program aimed at bringing families together.
The Bamasaaba Cultural Institution is a long-established cultural entity, having been in existence for about 15 years.
The late Umukuka Wilson Wamimbi reigned from 2010 to 2015, followed by the late Mushikor, who reigned from 2015 to 2020. In 2023, Umukuka III was also gazetted and will reign until August 2028. There had been an arrangement to have cultural leaders in the early 1960s, but this was disrupted due to the turbulent politics of the 1960s when kingdoms were shelved.
