Richard Ongorok, the Executive Director of the Lolo-Lolo Movement and Usuk County MP hopeful for the 2026 elections, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, injected millions of shillings to hire an excavator for the maintenance of the OKAS Dam.
OKAS Dam, located in Ayanga and Obwapesur villages of Celeuko Parish in Usuk Sub-county, recently burst, losing its water and posing significant risks to both the people and their livestock in the area. The breakage, coupled with a prolonged dry spell, severely affected several surrounding areas, including Kelim, Ajeluk, Asuret, Otidi, Aparisia, Celeuko, Adurukoi, and others, leading to a scarcity of water.
According to local residents, they have been forced to walk up to 10 kilometers with over 10,000 livestock in search of water. The community members expressed their gratitude, with Okure Simon Peter, Filbert Ariko, and others praising Ongorok for his timely intervention and generosity in providing for those in need.
Local leaders, including Charles Aurien, the LC1 of Anyanga, Okwi Vincent, and other community leaders, welcomed Ongorok’s contribution and urged the people of Usuk to collaborate with him.
Richard Ocan, Sarah Enokokin, and Emmanuel Omagor also acknowledged the ongoing developmental projects spearheaded by Ongorok through the Lolo-Lolo Movement, emphasizing the positive impact of his efforts on the county.
According to a report from LC5 Katakwi, Geoffrey Omolo, approximately 1,000 livestock have died in the district due to water and pasture shortages caused by the prolonged dry spell.
