Despite threats, bribes, blackmail, and intimidation from some NRM politicians in Kayunga, it’s clear that Agatha Nalubwama is the preferred candidate for Woman MP, Kayunga District, for the 2026-2031 term.
Having visited 66 out of 71 parishes in Kayunga and gathered insights from the people on the ground, we have learned of the formidable force and networks of dedicated people she has recruited across villages.
What shocked us was that all her supporters have been trained not only to support Agatha but also to act as agents of President Museveni—a role that Kayunga’s prominent politicians have been hesitant to take on.
Agatha Nalubwama is a shining example of exceptional leadership in Kayunga District, and her dedication to empowering the youth and promoting socioeconomic development has earned her the support of both the people and government of Kayunga.
In 2021, she was elected NRM Flag Bearer for Woman Member of Parliament for Kayunga District. In the main election, she competed against NUP’s flag bearer Harriet Nakwedde, independent candidate Nantaba Aida (the incumbent), and another independent candidate, Jackline Karangwa Birungi, the daughter of NRM District Chairman Karangwa Moses.
In the NRM primaries, Agatha defeated Jackline Birungi. However, she went on to stand as an independent candidate, which cost the NRM party and President Museveni. Nantaba employed various tactics, including vote manipulation, and she retained her seat.
Today, Kayunga District is considered one of the most politically divided districts in Uganda, possibly second only to Ssembabule. Since 2021, Agatha has stayed in close touch with the people, organizing activities ranging from awareness campaigns on the Parish Development Model, career guidance, spiritual conferences, training, and mentorship of youth in life skills, among others.
Agatha is now the target of all politicians in Kayunga who are detached from the common people. She is seen as the shining star of exemplary leadership, described as honest, incorruptible, and a dedicated leader committed to uniting and empowering the people of Kayunga for socioeconomic transformation.
Our sources in Kayunga have gathered enough information about her political activities. As the NRM Woman MP Flag Bearer, Agatha has consistently demonstrated her commitment to improving the lives of Kayunga’s residents. She is a beloved figure in the villages, even among those who have not met her personally. Her name is a household name across all the villages in Kayunga. She has often expressed confusion as to why NRM people continue to suffer despite President Museveni sending money and development projects to the district. One man in Galiraya said, “Agatha is the one we want to lead us and liberate our children and women from poverty and unemployment.”
Her focus on community development is evident in her efforts to promote industrial development, economic growth, and poverty reduction in Kayunga District. She has also urged the community to embrace the Parish Development Model to fight household poverty, demonstrating her dedication to socioeconomic development.
Agatha’s exceptional leadership has made a significant impact in Kayunga, even without holding a government-paid position. Despite limited personal resources, she has shown remarkable resilience and commitment to serving President Museveni and empowering ordinary people in Kayunga District. She has garnered support from both ordinary people and elites in the district.
Her initiatives have directly benefited individuals, providing training, mentorship, boreholes, medical camps, and community-based outreach programs, transforming lives and promoting self-sufficiency.
The people of Kayunga support Agatha because of her genuine, accountable, accommodative, friendly, and honest approach, which has earned her the community’s trust. She empowers youth and women through the Kayunga Empya Foundation and Agatha Nalubwama Ministries, providing skills training, economic opportunities, health support initiatives, and advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Agatha has expressed gratitude to President Museveni and Gen. Salim Saleh for launching the Mengo Presidential Skilling Hub in Gangama Parish, Kayunga District, which provides skills training to the youth, enabling them to become self-employed and employ others, thereby reducing poverty and unemployment. This project was commissioned by Youth Affairs Minister Balaam Barugahara.
As the founder of the Kayunga Empya Foundation, Agatha drives socioeconomic growth through entrepreneurship skills and healthcare initiatives. Her vision for a prosperous Kayunga resonates with the community, making her an ideal choice for District Woman Member of Parliament. In fact, she is the only candidate with a clear development agenda for the people of Kayunga, unlike her competitors, who rely on hatred, intimidation, and bribery. With Agatha at the helm, Kayunga’s future looks brighter than ever.
In her personal life, Agatha is a family person in a happy, long-term union with her fiancé, a businessman and former influential National Youth Leader in the Youth League of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). She is the daughter of the late Lubwama, who passed away in 2017.
Mr. Lubwama was the Mugerere of the Kabaka of Buganda in Bugerere County and one of the richest men in Kayunga for over 30 years, operating as a major coffee buyer, processor, and exporter. Her father built churches in Kayunga and supported numerous development programs. People in Kamgulumira Subcounty testified that her father built a church in their subcounty, and they will always vote for her without fear or favor. Our team also visited Busana Subcounty, where elders stated that Agatha’s father supported many churches in their area, including building churches.
Her father was one of those who supported the NRA Protracted Liberation War, which culminated in the liberation of Uganda in 1986, according to archived information and publicly available sources in Kayunga. Her family has maintained strong links with the Mengo government and has remained loyal to President Museveni and the NRM government. This loyalty is another reason Agatha has not joined the National Unity Platform (NUP), despite its popularity in Kayunga District.
In Bbaale, a businesswoman said, “All we want is a better Bbaale County with good roads, hospitals, schools, and opportunities to benefit from government programs. Agatha Nalubwama will do it.” She also spoke with Agatha’s husband, who addressed them over the phone. “He sounded humble and honest,” the woman remarked.
Agatha’s commitment to building strong relationships and fostering a sense of community is evident in both her personal life and leadership role. Agatha’s leadership style is characterized by her ability to collaborate with others, especially youth and women. “Agatha treated our children when she brought doctors here,” a female teacher in Nazigo pointed out.
She is not involved in the political wars in Kayunga, despite being targeted by corrupt politicians, especially those involved in land-grabbing or those claiming to be against land grabbers while practicing the same tactics. “I have been in many of her meetings, but she has never insulted anyone the way Kayunga politicians do. She is always talking about unity and development,” said one supporter.
Agatha is concerned that NRM leaders in villages and parishes are poor despite being in government. She attributes this to poor NRM leadership in the district and is working on ways to support NRM leaders in communities who have been sidelined by corrupt and selfish leaders at the district level, particularly the selfish MPs.
She has concentrated on engaging people while her competitors focus on undermining her efforts through blackmail, propaganda, threats, and bribery of her supporters.
Agatha remains the voice of the voiceless people in Kayunga. She is the way to end the suffering of the common people in Kayunga.
