KAMPALA, Uganda – The Electoral Commission (EC) of Uganda has announced a significant rescheduling of several regional conferences crucial for forming the electoral college for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
In a press release dated August 21st, 2025, and signed by its Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the Commission moved the dates for electing delegates for non-unionized workers, older persons, and national youth committees.
The first change affects the regional conferences for non-unionized workers’ delegates. Originally set for Monday, August 25th, 2025, the elections will now be held a week later on Monday, September 1st, 2025. The conferences will take place across the four regions of Uganda: Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western.
Furthermore, the election of Regional Delegates to the National Council for Older Persons has been pushed back by nearly a month. Instead of Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, the conferences will now be held on Friday, September 26th, 2025.
The most extended postponement is for the election of the National Youth Committees. Initially planned for a three-day period from August 27th to 29th, 2025, the exercise is now scheduled to take place between October 1st and 3rd, 2025.
The press release stated that the changes were made “in consultation with stakeholders,” though it did not specify the reasons behind the rescheduling.
The Electoral Commission has made a public appeal, urging all relevant stakeholders to take note of the new dates and to actively participate in the upcoming regional conferences. The EC also emphasized that participants should follow the guidelines that will be issued by the Commission to ensure the process is orderly and credible.
These conferences are a vital part of Uganda’s elaborate electoral roadmap, forming the foundation for representative bodies that will participate in the broader electoral process leading to the General Elections.
