Mbale, Uganda – The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, has reminded media owners, radio and TV managers, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and security agencies that while the NRM government guarantees freedom of the press and access to information, that freedom must not infringe upon the rights of other Ugandans.
Speaking on September 23, 2025, during a media engagement held at Mbale Resort Hotel, Hon. Kabyanga emphasized the importance of professional, balanced reporting. He further stressed that journalistic ethics must be strictly upheld.
The event, organized by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), brought together radio and TV operators from Eastern Uganda for a sensitization session on electoral laws and media conduct ahead of the upcoming elections.
Hon. Kabyanga urged RDCs to ensure peaceful elections in their respective jurisdictions. He also encouraged them to utilize the government-provided one-hour airtime on local radio stations to raise awareness about government programmes, projects, and service delivery.
In an exclusive interview, Napak RDC Milton Odongo welcomed the minister’s message and echoed the call for responsible journalism.
“I urge radio presenters, news anchors, reporters, and station owners in the Karamoja sub-region to take the advice from the Uganda Communications Commission seriously. It will promote better social responsibility and harmony in both broadcasting and publishing,” Odongo said.
