Museveni to Commission Multi-Billion Shilling Projects During Obongi District Visit

Obongi District, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will visit Obongi District on 13th October 2025. This has been confirmed by a State House advance team, which met with district leaders led by RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, ARDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha, District Chairperson Abibu Buga Awadi, DPC SP Akena Moses, and NRM leaders to make arrangements for the visit.

The team and leaders agreed that the venue for the meeting will be Lionga Playground at the district headquarters.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, said the people of Obongi District are excited about the visit, especially since President Museveni played a key role in Obongi being declared a district. Since 2019/2020, the district has recorded many achievements.

Hashaka said the achievements include funding for the annual budget by over 90%, and special programs like PDM, UWEP, YLP, Emyooga, DRDIP, USMID, UPE, USE, construction of primary and secondary schools, and health centers. Additionally, democracy has been strengthened, with people freely electing leaders of their choice.

President Museveni last visited Obongi District in April 2023, when he pledged electricity and tarmacking projects, which are currently in the pipeline.

Some residents expressed gratitude to President Museveni and the NRM government for the numerous achievements in the district and promised to vote massively for the President.

However, the residents also called on President Museveni to address corruption in the district, where billions of shillings have reportedly been stolen by some top politicians and technical staff, some of whom have been arrested and interdicted.

They added that the police, IGG, and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit have not done enough to punish and prosecute the corrupt.

The RDC, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, said one of the activities President Museveni will perform is the commissioning of the 3-billion-shilling Gopele Seed Secondary School project in Gimara Sub County, constructed by Spider Contractors Ltd.

Hashaka disclosed that Obongi, which has five sub-counties and one town council, will by the end of this year have four secondary schools, with a fifth one expected soon. He added that if all goes well, by the end of this term in May 2026, each sub-county will have its own seed secondary school.

Regarding clean water, the RDC said the NRM manifesto has already been implemented, as water coverage now stands at about 80%, which is above the national level.

This follows the recent commissioning of the Obongi Town Council tap water project, worth over 6.2 billion shillings, by the Minister of State for Water, Hajati Aisha Sekindi. About 700 households have been connected, exceeding the original 600 households budgeted for. Public standpipes have also been constructed for the community.
