Ugandans have been left talking after Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip and senior NRM leader, revealed the deeper meaning behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 2026 campaign slogan: “Protecting the Gains.”
Speaking during a media appearance, Obua explained that the slogan is not just political rhetoric, but is anchored in the spirit of the Holy Trinity.
“The gains we are protecting are in the spirit of God the Father, which is development; God the Son, which is sustainable peace; and God the Holy Spirit, which is wealth creation initiatives,” Obua said.
He stressed that the foundation of the NRM’s 2026 campaign is the peace and stability that President Museveni’s leadership has brought to Uganda, particularly in regions that were once unstable.
“When we talk about protecting the gains, we mean protecting them in the spirit of the Holy Trinity. First and foremost, we are safeguarding the sustainable peace that has been ushered in by the NRM government under the leadership of President Museveni. Lango was once a danger zone in the past; we suffered under cattle rustlers and the LRA. It is only the NRM that has been able to bring peace,” Obua added.
He noted that the NRM will be seeking another mandate on the basis of tangible achievements, not only in Lango and northern Uganda, but across the country.
“The 2026 campaigns, on the side of the NRM, will primarily be anchored and premised on the achievements we have made,” he said.
Obua also described President Museveni as a “political giant who is tried, tested, and trusted,” adding that Lango is ready to receive him.
Meanwhile, President Museveni officially kicked off his 2026 campaign in Luwero on Day 1, before heading northwards. Today, he is in Amolatar District, continuing his trail across northern Uganda where he will be campaigning for the next several weeks.
The emphasis on “protecting the gains” is expected to be a central theme throughout Museveni’s campaign, highlighting peace, stability, development, and wealth creation as the pillars of Uganda’s future.
