City Businessman Dr Charles Mbire was on Friday recognised for his outstanding service and lifelong contribution during the 2025 St Mary’s College Kisubi Old Boys Association (SMACKOBA) Dinner and Awards Night held at Hotel Africana.

The event, which attracted hundreds of Old Boys of St Mary’s College Kisubi, celebrated leadership, professional excellence and the enduring spirit of service among alumni. It was graced by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, who commended the association for nurturing leaders who continue to make a positive impact on society.

Dr Mbire, the chairman and local shareholder of MTN Uganda, received the Alumni Medallion Award, one of SMACKOBA’s highest honours. The citation recognised his exceptional dedication, distinguished service and unwavering commitment to the values and ideals of St Mary’s College Kisubi.

The inscription on the plaque read in part: “In recognition of your exceptional dedication, distinguished service and unwavering commitment to the ideals and values of St Mary’s College Kisubi. Your contributions stand as an inspiration to all members of our community.” The award was conferred on December 5, 2025, and signed by SMACKOBA president Ray Nyamatebe Baguma and secretary general Alex Munobe.

Dr Mbire joined a distinguished group of alumni whose professional achievements and public service have helped strengthen the reputation and legacy of Kisubi. The same honour was also presented to the titular head of the Muslim community in Uganda, Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, in recognition of his leadership and contribution to national development.

Beyond individual recognition, the annual dinner highlighted SMACKOBA’s long-standing commitment to community service. Over the years, the association has supported education by paying school fees for needy children, assisted patients facing overwhelming hospital bills, and contributed to various community development initiatives.

Several prominent alumni, including businessman Fabian Kasi, Joseph Balikuddembe and other leaders from different sectors, attended the event, underscoring the breadth of influence of Kisubi’s Old Boys.

The 2025 Dinner and Awards Night concluded with renewed commitment by members to uphold the values of discipline, service and leadership, and to continue using their collective strength to positively transform communities across the country.
