Kumi RDC Kyomya Launches Major School Projects, Calls on Parents and Community to Support Education

Deputy RDC Kyomya Mobilizes Community as Kumi Schools Receive New Facilities

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kumi District, Mr. Kyomya James, has presided over the official launch of several education infrastructure projects across primary schools in the district.

The two-day exercise, held on Wednesday and Thursday, was attended by Assistant RDCs Ms. Akello Irene and Ms. Angida Phoebe, the LCV District Chairperson and members of the district executive, the Chief Administrative Officer, line technical staff, contractors, as well as teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, School Management Committees (SMCs), PTAs, and community members.

The projects include the construction of new classroom blocks, renovation and maintenance of existing classrooms, construction of five-stance VIP pit latrines, and development of sports facilities. The works will be implemented in Aukot, Onyakelo, Kakures, Oladot, Akadot, Kabwele, and Kogil Primary Schools.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kyomya applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his continued commitment to improving access to quality education in Uganda, particularly in Kumi District. He noted that there are significant gains to protect in the education sector within the district.

He urged contractors to ensure high-quality standards in the execution of the projects, warning that shoddy work would not be tolerated. He also called upon stakeholders and community members to closely monitor the implementation process to ensure value for money and durability of the facilities.

The Deputy RDC encouraged parents to ensure all children report back to school for the first term, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing free education. He stressed that no child should remain at home during school hours.

Mr. Kyomya further mobilized residents to cooperate with security agencies in reporting criminal activities, emphasizing that maintaining peace and security is a shared responsibility.

During the event, Mr. Kyomya congratulated the people of Kumi for their overwhelming support of President Museveni in the recent general election, where the President secured 84.14 percent of the vote in the district, compared to 54.6 percent in 2021. He described the outcome as a clear endorsement of the achievements of the NRM government and called on residents to continue safeguarding the progress made in the district.
