Mbale, Uganda — The Spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Hon. Steven Masiga, has confirmed that His Highness the Umukuka of Bugisu, Sir Jude Mike Mudoma, alongside Prince Kassim Nakibinge, the titular head of Muslims in Uganda, officiated at a recently concluded Muslim schools sports tournament held in Mbale City.
According to Hon. Masiga, the week-long event brought together more than 15 Muslim-founded schools from across the country, fostering unity, talent development, and inter-school cooperation among learners.
The tournament was hosted at Nkoma Senior Secondary School, a Muslim-founded institution under the leadership of Headteacher Hajji Kawanguzi Abubakar.
Hon. Masiga noted that His Highness the Umukuka made a grand entry into Mbale Stadium on Friday afternoon, where he officially opened the tournament. He was accompanied by leaders from the Muslim community and the school administration, including Headteacher Hajji Kawanguzi, Board Chairman Prof. Nabalegwa, and representatives from the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA).
During his address, the Umukuka commended the school leadership for notable progress, particularly in infrastructural development. He highlighted the construction of a new gate valued at over UGX 20 million and the establishment of several classroom blocks as key milestones in the school’s growth.
He also praised the school for incorporating Lumasaba into its curriculum, describing it as an important step in preserving local language and culture. Additionally, he lauded the school’s strong academic performance in the recently released Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.
His Highness pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Bugisu Cultural Institution and educational institutions across the region. He further cautioned individuals who may seek to undermine school administrators, urging them to refrain from interfering with the smooth management of schools.
The Umukuka officially flagged off the tournament, which was later brought to a close by Prince Kassim Nakibinge, who presided over the closing ceremony as the guest of honor.
