Shock in Kitagwenda as Student Hospitalised After Tetanus Injection; Health Authorities Say Investigation Launched

Kitagwenda District Sign Post

KITAGWENDA, Uganda – A 20-year-old Senior Four student at Kicwamba Secondary School is battling serious health complications following a tetanus injection reportedly administered at a government health facility, prompting concern among residents and an official investigation.

Nabale Jackline is said to have developed severe symptoms shortly after receiving the injection on 15th April 2026, at Ntara Health Centre IV. According to accounts from her family and community members, the student is currently unable to walk or eat and is experiencing intense body pain.

The incident has raised anxiety among parents and students in the area, with many questioning the safety of routine immunisation services.

District health officials, however, have urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue. Kitagwenda District Health Educator Herbert Twongyeirwe said vaccines administered under government programs are generally safe and undergo strict quality control processes.

“We are aware of the case and investigations are ongoing to establish what could have caused the reaction,” Twongyeirwe said, adding that it is important not to jump to conclusions before medical findings are confirmed.

Health experts note that while vaccines are widely regarded as safe, rare adverse reactions can occur, and such cases require thorough assessment to determine whether the symptoms are directly linked to the injection or caused by other underlying conditions.

Authorities have not yet released detailed medical findings regarding Jackline’s condition, but local leaders say efforts are being made to ensure she receives the necessary medical attention.

The case has renewed calls for strengthened monitoring of immunisation programs and timely communication with communities to maintain public trust in health services.

As investigations continue, health officials have encouraged the public to continue utilising government vaccination services while reporting any unusual reactions to medical personnel promptly.
