Police Investigates Disturbing Rise in Domestic Violence in Uganda

The Uganda Police Force has registered several incidents of domestic violence within the community, with female victims and elderly persons being the most affected. Here are the details of the incidents:

Incident Location Date Details
Incident 1 Rukungiri 11.10.2023 Tumworobere Amos, also known as Gift, is wanted for the murder of his wife, Kyomugisha Annet, aged 23. He killed her with a panga at Kateramo trading center. They had no previous conflicts.
Incident 2 Buvuma 10.10.2023 Malekwa Majid, a 45-year-old, is in custody for killing his wife, Nalumansi Asia, aged 40, with a panga. The incident happened during a forest disagreement.
Incident 3 Mukono Date not specified Kyeswa Yusuf is held for the alleged murder of his stepmother, Nakanwagi Kevina, motivated by the theft of 3 million Ugandan Shillings. He disposed of her body in a pit latrine.
Incident 4 Kabarole 14.10.2023 Two suspects, Kobusinge Winnie and Musinguzi Bernardo, are in custody for strangling Mwesige Peter, a 42-year-old boda boda rider, and dumping his body in the river.
Incident 5 Bushenyi 14.10.2023 Byaruhanga Richard is wanted for assaulting his grandmother, Anyesi Tiberebwa, aged 96, leading to her death.
Incident 6 Mityana 14.10.2023 Kibuuka is in custody for the attempted murder and wounding of his father, Mugerwa Fred, and sister, Nakanjako Christine. The incident arose from a dispute over land proceeds.

 




The police have urged their commanders to ensure the perpetrators are brought to court, and those still at large are apprehended and face justice. They emphasize the negative impact of such family violence on the sanctity of marriage and relationships in the community.
