In a recent operation, police in Kisii arrested 14 individuals on suspicion of involvement in mobile phone and laptop theft. The National Police Service announced that the raid, which took place on Wednesday, October 18, was carried out by officers from the Kisii Central subcounty in collaboration with Mkopa. The operation, located within Kisii Town, resulted in the retrieval of 351 stolen mobile phones, 20 laptops, 13 tablets, and 21 hard drives.
The recovered items are believed to have been stolen from members of the public, leading to the apprehension of 14 suspects. This development follows the recent arrest of four suspects connected to a wave of mobile phone disappearances in Nairobi City. Detectives, conducting an intelligence-led operation in the city’s Central Business District, detained two Kenyans and two Ugandans.
During the operation, the first Ugandan suspect was found with 13 smartphones, suspected to be intended for the black market in Uganda. This individual cooperated with authorities and led them to a shop where other stolen mobile phones were being received. Subsequently, a fourth suspect was located at the Simba Coach bus station, where they were expecting a package intended for Uganda. Detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, based at the DCI Nairobi Regional Command, have expanded their efforts to apprehend more suspects.
