The Member of Parliament for Obongi district, Honorable Maneno Zumura, has made an appeal to the President’s office, urging His Excellency General Yoweri Museveni Kaguta to fulfill his pledge to provide electricity to the people of Obongi. She addressed this matter during a recent meeting with the Obongi Resident District Commissioner, Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa.

During her conversation with RDC Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa, Honorable Maneno Zumura highlighted President Museveni’s commitment to bringing electricity to Obongi, a promise he made during his visit to the district on April 13th of this year. Despite this promise, there has been no visible progress in fulfilling this commitment.

Zumura emphasized the urgency of providing electricity to Obongi, stating that the district is only a few kilometers away from an existing power source and could be connected within a week. She expressed her disappointment at the lack of progress since the President’s visit.

The MP stressed the importance of holding the President’s office accountable for its promises and ensuring that services are delivered to the people of Obongi in a timely manner. As a result, she requested RDC Hasaka Samuel Mpimbasa to remind President Museveni about the unfulfilled electricity pledge.

Honorable Maneno Zumura voiced her concerns during the commissioning of the Dongo market in Itula sub-county, where she mentioned that the absence of electricity has caused significant hardships for her constituents. She also questioned why Obongi remains one of the only two districts in Uganda without electricity.

Zumura pointed out that connecting electricity to Obongi should be a relatively simple task, as it involves linking to the neighboring Yumbe district, located just ten kilometers away.

In response to the MP’s request, Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka pledged to follow up on the President’s commitment to provide electricity. He assured Honorable Maneno Zumura that he would do everything necessary to remind the President about the pledge, with the aim of bringing the benefits of the NRM government to the people of Obongi.

In a related development, RDC Hasaka urged the public to take the issue of the Participatory Development Monitoring (PDM) program seriously, emphasizing the importance of PDM members adhering to their respective Saccos and enterprises.
