Residents of Omugo sub-county in Terego district, Uganda, were deeply shocked when a devoted Arsenal fan lost his life while celebrating an equalizing goal against Chelsea in a Premier League match held the previous evening.
The match concluded in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, securing Arsenal a valuable point to uphold their unbeaten record for the season.
The deceased individual has been identified as Fostine Androdribo, a resident of Komendako village in Owayi Parish, Omugo sub-county, Terego district.
Omugo sub-county chairperson, Philliam Jabo, who also resided in close proximity to the deceased, recounted that Androdribo was at the Galaxy Video Hall in Komendako Trading Centre, watching the game.
According to Jabo, Androdribo stood up and removed his shirt in celebration of substitute Leandro Trossard’s 84th-minute equalizer, but he suddenly collapsed.
Despite the swift efforts of his companions to rush him for medical assistance, Androdribo was pronounced dead upon arrival at Omugo Health IV.
In the meantime, William Drabo, the brother of the deceased, disclosed to Uganda Radio Network that his brother did not have any known medical conditions. He had been working as a security guard in Kampala and had returned to the village only a week ago to attend a relative’s burial.
Modesto Acidri, the LCI chairperson of Komendako village, urged residents to adopt regular medical checkups as a preventive measure to avert such unfortunate incidents in the future. He emphasized that it is often challenging for individuals to ascertain their health status, making regular checkups a crucial practice.
The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family, who declined to authorize a post-mortem examination.
Just last month, another Arsenal supporter, Jackson Aineruhanga, in Sheema District, allegedly lost his life after being stabbed by a Manchester United fan following Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
