The implementation of Executive Order Number Three has once again gained momentum in Obongi District, with a strong focus on cracking down on illegal charcoal and timber trade.
Authorities in Obongi District have officially banned illegal charcoal burning and illegal timber businesses. This action is in compliance with Executive Order No. 3, recently issued by His Excellency, the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta.
Recently, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the District Forest Officer, Mr. Rongum Tairi, spearheaded an operation in Itula Sub-County, resulting in the impoundment of over three hundred bags of charcoal and timber. Unfortunately, suspects later returned at night and set fire to the impounded charcoal in the forest. Nevertheless, the remaining bags of unburnt charcoal and timber were subsequently handed over to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Obongi.
According to RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka, the era of illegal charcoal and timber businesses is coming to an end in Obongi District. The RDC, along with the District Forest Officer, impounded a locally made wheelbarrow crafted from timber, which had been used to transport charcoal and timber in Itula Forest. They issued a stern warning to the public against engaging in illegal timber trading.
Furthermore, the Resident District Commissioner urged the Wanahinci to report anyone involved in the illicit activities within Obongi District. In line with presidential directives, anyone caught in the act will be brought before a court of law.
RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka has, on multiple occasions, accused certain government-appointed leaders of obstructing the implementation of presidential directives in Obongi by undermining the RDC’s office.
