President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday officially laid the foundation stone for the new Headquarters of Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga, marking a symbolic moment as he concluded his campaign trail in the Busoga sub-region.
The President made a brief stopover on his way to the final rally in Bugembe, where he met the Kyabazinga and commended the strong partnership between government and the cultural institution.
“I thank the Kyabazinga and his team for the good cooperation. This development will support the cultural institution as we continue working with the people of Busoga to secure peace and push forward socio-economic transformation,” President Museveni said.
Before arriving in Jinja for the final rally, Museveni had earlier addressed residents in Iganga, where he reflected on the region’s past struggles and the peace that Uganda now enjoys.
“When I travel through Uganda, I thank God. These places were once battlefields. In 1971–72, Iganga was a small town where I even hid 12 guns during the struggle. Today, we celebrate peace,” he told supporters.
He urged the people of Iganga and the wider Busoga region not to ignore wealth-creation programmes such as the 4-acre model, Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and youth/women funds, which he said have already lifted many families out of poverty.
“Let everyone join this journey. These programmes are working. People in Iganga, Kamuli, Abim, Lira and many other districts have used them to improve their livelihoods,” he said.
Museveni also highlighted ongoing government investments in education, water, electricity and infrastructure, including the planned tarmacking of the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli road.
The President later concluded the Busoga campaign at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja City, where he emphasized that the NRM’s 2026–2031 Manifesto is built on core pillars such as peace, development, wealth creation, jobs, services, regional integration and East African unity.
“Development is ours together, but wealth is for each household. That is why I again guided them on homestead income and modern farming,” he said, urging Busoga residents to continue supporting the NRM to “protect the gains.”
Museveni thanked the people of Busoga for their overwhelming support throughout his tour.
“Mwebale inho! Thank you for the warm welcome,” he said.

With the Busoga leg completed, President Museveni is now set to shift his campaign to Western Uganda. His next phase will begin on Monday, November 24th, with the opening rally scheduled for Kisoro District, before he proceeds to other districts in the region over the coming days.
