The government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, has unveiled revised driving license fees for motorcyclists. Following a directive from H.E. President Kaguta Museveni, the fees for motorcycle licenses have been reduced to UGX 100,000.

Every rider is now required to obtain a driver’s license after completing training at a licensed driving school.

This initiative aims to ensure that every individual entrusted with operating a vehicle on the roads is properly trained and qualified.

The move is part of broader efforts to improve road safety by ensuring all motorcyclists are adequately trained and licensed.

“Following a directive by H.E. the President, the driving license fees for motorcycles have been revised downwards to UGX 100,000,” the Ministry announced on their Twitter handle on Tuesday.

The new fee structure includes a reduction in learner license fees from UGX 60,000 to UGX 40,000. A one-year license will now cost UGX 100,000, down from UGX 135,000, while three-year and five-year licenses are set at UGX 130,000 and UGX 250,000, respectively.

Renewal fees have also been reduced. One-year license renewals are now priced at UGX 70,000, down from UGX 130,000. Three-year and five-year renewals will cost UGX 100,000 and UGX 200,000, respectively.

Additionally, the cost for class extensions and duplicate licenses has been set at UGX 60,000 each.

The Ministry emphasized that every motorcycle rider is now expected to obtain a driver’s license after training from a licensed driving school, ensuring that all individuals riding on public roads are properly trained and qualified.
