AMOLATAR: Deputy RDC Calls for Urgent NRM Unity Meeting After Electoral Shock

AMOLATAR, Uganda – In a move aimed at healing deep internal divisions within the ruling party, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Amolatar, Mr. Obonyo Magwar, has officially called upon the District NRM Chairman to convene an immediate review meeting for all party supporters and mobilisers.

The call comes in the wake of what party insiders have described as a “stormy” election cycle that resulted in the shocking defeat of all the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers for Parliament as well as the party’s candidate for District Chairman.

In a communication addressed to the District NRM Chairman and also aired on local radio stations Hot FM and Kioga FM, Mr. Magwar emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation. He noted that the party family, symbolized by the colour yellow, has been deeply fragmented by old political camps loyal to different influential figures in the district.

“Such a meeting would reconcile the family of yellow who were deeply divided based on old camps of political kings of Amolatar,” the Deputy RDC’s message stressed. He argued that a successful review would steer the party, the business community, and peace-loving residents towards rapid development by harnessing the district’s existing potential.

Party Cadres Hail the Initiative as a Path to Peace

The Deputy RDC’s directive has been met with widespread approval from senior party members who view it as the only viable avenue to resolve lingering conflicts within the district party structure.

Col. (Rtd) Dr. John Francis Ongia, a senior NRM cadre in the district, now working with the Office of the President on the Agro-Industrializationfor Northern Uganda, when contacted about this development. threw his weight behind the move. He urged the District NRM Chairman, Hon Kamilo Olwit, to heed the call and organize the meeting promptly.

“We need to hear from our chairman. The President recently held a meeting with NRM chairmen from across the country, and Kamilo Olwit was part of the meeting. He needs to call us together and tell us what the President told him,” Dr. Ongia stated. “This meeting is crucial. From there, we can openly discuss our differences and forge a clear way forward to solve the conflicts that have been tearing our party leaders and members apart here in Amolatar.”

Dr. Ongia further noted that the meeting would provide a platform to strategize on how to work with the incoming District Chairman, Hon Ogwal Omara whom he described as a proactive and capable NRM cadre. “Even if he was not our NRM Flag bearer, He is known, believed, and seen as someone who can steer Amolatar into greater heights,” he added.

Drawing from Tradition to Mend Fences

Drawing a parallel to the African tradition of settling disputes over a shared meal, the Deputy RDC’s proposal paints a picture of a gathering that could transform conflict into camaraderie. He suggested that a positive outcome from the discussions could very well culminate in a jubilant celebration of unity.

However, efforts to get an immediate reaction from the man at the center of the directive, NRM Chairman Kamilo Olwit, proved futile by press time. His known phone contacts were switched off, leaving questions about his response to the call unanswered for now.

The proposed meeting is seen as a critical test for the NRM’s ability to regroup and present a united front in Amolatar following its recent electoral setbacks.
