Amudat District Service Commission Under Fire Over Alleged Job Selling

AMUDAT – Anti-corruption activists in Amudat District, Karamoja Sub-region, have petitioned the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate the district’s recent recruitment process over allegations of job selling and irregular appointments.

The petitioners claim that several positions were awarded to applicants who allegedly lacked the required qualifications and experience, raising concerns about the integrity of the recruitment exercise conducted by the Amudat District Service Commission.

According to the complainants, the position of Senior District Planner was allegedly given to an applicant who previously worked as a teller at Centenary Bank in Moroto. They argue that the position requires not only the relevant academic qualifications but also several years of experience in local government planning.

“An individual seeking appointment as a Senior District Planner should have worked in local government as a planner for at least four to five years. However, this requirement appears to have been ignored,” one of the petitioners alleged.

The activists further accuse the District Service Commission of irregularly appointing an individual who had been serving as a Sub-county Chief to the position of Principal Town Clerk.

They claim that the recruitment process was marred by widespread irregularities and allege that money may have influenced the selection of successful candidates.

The petitioners have also criticized the newly elected Amudat District LCV Chairperson, accusing him of failing to address the alleged misconduct within the District Service Commission.

They are now calling on the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to urgently investigate the matter and restore public confidence in the district’s recruitment processes.

“State House Anti-Corruption should come to the rescue of Amudat. Otherwise, the district may collapse due to these irregularities,” one of the petitioners said.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Amudat District Service Commission and district authorities were not immediately successful by the time of filing this report.
