MBARARA, UGANDA – Students were urged to put God’s word into practice during an inter-schools prayer day held at Rubindi Parish Catholic Church in Rubindi Town, Kashari North, Mbarara District, on Saturday, 28th February 2026.
The service was held under the theme “Be Doers, Not Hearers” and was led by Rubindi Vocational Training Institute. It drew students from several schools, including St. Andrew’s Secondary School, St. Mark Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Pearl High School, St. Mary’s Secondary School, St. Benedict Secondary School, Ankole High School and St. Bonny High School.
The guest speaker and facilitator of the day, Madam Betty Mutebi, emphasised the importance of putting God’s word into practice, citing James 1:22. “Be doers of the word, not just hearers,” she urged, warning students against negative influences such as stealing and peer pressure.
“You want to associate with bad peer groups and when they harm you, like cutting off your arm, you start giving testimonies in churches,” she warned.
Parish priest Mr Ayekundira Alberia also encouraged students to obey school rules for a peaceful academic journey.
“If you obey school rules and regulations, you will achieve 100 percent,” he said.
The director of Rubindi Vocational Training Institute, Mr Namanya Robert, encouraged students from other schools to enrol in vocational training under the TVET programme, saying it would help them sustain themselves in the future.
“I introduce to you vocational training under the TVET programme, which trains and produces job creators instead of job seekers. Most people who opt for general studies at A-Level are the ones who later cry due to unemployment,” he said.
The event served as a powerful reminder for students to stay focused on their faith and values.
