The Ankole Times

At a solemn gathering filled with grief, gratitude, and deep reflection, the Prime Minister of Bukuuka Bwa Bugisu, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu, led mourners in paying tribute to the late Mr. Robert Andrew Wasike.

Addressing the Bishop, clergy, family members, dignitaries, and the community, Dr. Mwambu extended heartfelt condolences and conveyed warm sympathies from His Royal Highness Umukuuka III, Sir Jude Mike Mudoma, who was unable to attend due to official duties in Kampala.

The Prime Minister spoke with emotion as he reflected on Robert’s life—not just as a prominent member of the community, but as a close relative. He described Robert as a cousin with whom he grew up and studied, a man whose brilliance and innovation shone through even in their youth.

Among their peers, Robert distinguished himself as “the brightest, the most innovative, and the most solution-oriented.” His intelligence, creativity, kindness, and generosity left a mark on everyone around him.

One of Robert’s most enduring legacies was his work on the remodeling, rehabilitation, and equipping of Bibirabi Archdeaconry Church, a project he undertook alongside Dr. Sam Watulatsu. The Prime Minister praised this service as a shining example of love for God and community—an example he urged all Bagisu to emulate.

Dr. Mwambu also comforted Robert’s mother, Senge Mary Loyce Wasike, and extended prayers to Robert’s elder brother, Canon Fred Watuwa, asking God to strengthen the entire family during this difficult time.

He reminded mourners of life’s fragility, saying that anyone can be “recalled by our Creator without notice,” and encouraged all to live prayerfully, humbly, and in service to others.

Amid the grief, the Prime Minister addressed ongoing matters within the cultural institution. He clarified that the rebranding of IYM to Bukuuka Bwa Bugisu was done to align with the ICTL Act of 2011, calling for calm and respectful engagement from all stakeholders. He further urged the community to maintain peace during the political season, listen carefully to all candidates, and reject any form of violence.

In closing, Dr. Mwambu prayed that God’s grace comfort Robert’s family and all mourners, and that Robert’s soul finds eternal rest.

Speaking to this publication, the institution’s spokesperson, Mr. Steven Masiga, expressed deep sorrow over the continued loss of Bamasaaba people in tragic road accidents, saying such deaths “disturb and deeply irritate the cultural institution,” and calling for greater attention to road safety.

May the soul of Mr. Robert Andrew Wasike rest in eternal peace.
