PostBank Uganda has introduced the “Wendi App,” an innovative platform aimed at enhancing collaboration among multiple banks. This application is designed to offer customers a comprehensive, one-stop solution, enabling them to access a diverse range of banking services spanning various financial institutions.
The official launch of the Wendi App took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala, with the presence of the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Mr. Michael Atingi-Ego. Atingi-Ego praised PostBank’s initiative, acknowledging it as a substantial advancement in Uganda’s financial technology sector. During his keynote address, he expressed his optimism about the positive influence the Wendi App is poised to have on the country’s banking industry.
Atingi-Ego highlighted the innovative nature of the Wendi App, saying, “We welcome the Wendi App as an innovative approach to foster collaboration and healthy competition among financial institutions. This platform aligns with our vision for a modern, inclusive, and customer-centric banking ecosystem.” He further commended PostBank for its commitment to financial inclusion, digital innovation, and the provision of the best possible services for Ugandans.
The Deputy Governor stressed the importance of expanding access to financial services, particularly for those at the lower end of the economic spectrum. He emphasized that the Bank of Uganda shares PostBank’s vision for financial inclusion, making services accessible to all Ugandans, irrespective of their financial standing.
Julius Kakeeto, the Managing Director of PostBank Uganda, revealed that the bank has successfully automated approximately 2,400 SACCOs, empowering them to operate independently. Furthermore, parish development committees are now managing their accounts, eliminating the need for physical visits to the bank.
Kakeeto addressed the issue of financial inclusion in Uganda, noting that a significant portion of the population remains excluded from the formal financial system. He emphasized that Wendi Wallet is designed to address this challenge by promoting affordability, reducing paperwork, and facilitating collaboration with other banks.
One noteworthy feature of Wendi is its inclusivity. Customers are not required to have an account with PostBank to enjoy the full range of services offered by the Wendi App, even if they are registered with a different bank.
Kakeeto further highlighted the bank’s emphasis on automating PDM SACCOs, as Wendi incorporates a dedicated module for managing SACCOs. This automation aims to simplify disbursements for beneficiaries. In fact, the Wendi App has the capacity to process payments for up to half a million individuals in a single day, making it a powerful tool for financial inclusion in Uganda.
