A man who pretended to be the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Joab Wabwire, to wrongfully claim land in Mukono has been taken into custody by the police.
In 2014, David Kanonya purchased four acres of land in Namuyenje parish, Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district. However, because he delayed its development, another individual named Deo Mwasa seized it.
Kanonya reported, “When I visited my land, I found Mwasa with a group of others who attacked me. They severely beat me, but when I reported the incident to the police, he was briefly detained and later released.”
Upon returning to his land, Kanonya discovered that it had been leveled, and all the building materials, including the chain link, had been stolen. Mwasa claimed that the land belonged to SSP Joab Wabwire, the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander.
Kanonya explained, “Upon hearing this from Mwasa, my friends advised me to file a complaint with the police headquarters at Naguru for resolution. It was this complaint that led to Mwasa’s arrest.”
The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest of the impersonator.
“We currently have him in custody at Jinja Road Police station for impersonating the Kampala Metropolitan East Regional Police Commander. He was apprehended after Kanonya sought the intervention of police headquarters. We conducted an investigation and arrested Mwasa,” Owoyesigyire stated.
He added, “If the evidence is deemed sufficient, the resident state attorney’s office will advise accordingly. We caution the public against using the names of individuals in positions of authority for their personal land matters. Such actions should be supported by evidence and pursued with the objective of investigating the matter impartially.”
