In Bushenyi district, the local police are searching for a 23-year-old man named Byaruhanga Richard. He is the prime suspect in the alleged murder of a 96-year-old grandmother, Anyesi Teberebwa, both residents of Kayojo cell, Ruharo ward, central division, Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality.
The incident occurred around 7 pm on that Saturday. In the early morning, at approximately 1 am, Byaruhanga Richard returned home from Kizinda and requested that his family pray for him, citing a severe headache. His family members complied with his request, with some of them leaving for Kabagarame pork market after the prayers.
Byaruhanga came back around 4 pm and insisted that the deceased, Anyesi Teberebwa, continue to pray for him. The situation escalated, and they were eventually separated by Nuwagaba Erineo.
Later, at 7 pm on the same day, while most family members were away, Byaruhanga forcefully broke into the house, attacked the elderly woman in her bedroom, and physically assaulted her while demanding that she pray for him. Tragically, during this altercation, Byaruhanga pushed Anyesi Teberebwa, causing her to strike her head on the floor, resulting in her immediate death. An alarm was raised by Kyobutungi Ada, who was present, and Longino Karyaisa attempted to apprehend the suspect but was met with resistance. Byaruhanga managed to escape.
The crime scene was examined by a team of detectives who documented and preserved evidence for further investigation. Statements were taken from witnesses, and the deceased’s body was transported to KIU Hospital Ishaka mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that inquiries are ongoing to locate and apprehend the suspect, Byaruhanga Richard, for prosecution.
