Crowds Storm Katakwi EC Office as ICU Cultural Adviser Ojaman Joins Politics

Katakwi, Uganda The Electoral Commission office in Katakwi District was overwhelmed on 1st September  as a large number of residents from Usuk Sub-county voluntarily turned up to collect nomination forms in support of Hon. Ojaman Simon Peter, a cultural adviser to the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) leader, to contest for the position of District Councillor.

Led by Alex Ogwang, the residents cited poor leadership in the area as the main reason for backing Ojaman’s bid.

Ojaman, 44, is the son of the late George William Alepo and Rose Tino, both of Aojatorom village, Ongema Parish, in Usuk Sub-county. He is a devout Catholic, married to Stella Rose Imoit, and a father of six.

His political journey began in 2001 as an LC1 Secretary, later serving as LC3 Councillor, then as a District Councillor for Usuk Sub-county between 2011 and 2021. He currently serves as Special Adviser to His Highness Paul Sande Emolot-Etomaileng, the ICU Cultural Leader.

In the upcoming election, Ojaman is expected to face off with the incumbent councillor Raphael Ojakol (FDC) and Okure (NRM).

Speaking on the matter, His Highness Emolot-Etomaileng wished Ojaman well and called for unity in the community. He emphasized that no law prohibits ICU officials from contesting in political positions.

Who is Ojaman?

Hon. Simon Peter Ojaman is known for his grassroots influence and is a vocal supporter of the NRM party, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo, and Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang.

He also played a key role in campaigning for Richard Ongorok, who won the Usuk County MP seat on the NRM ticket, defeating incumbent Bosco Okiror.

Ojaman is credited with mentoring his son Abraham Alepo, who is now vying for the Eastern Youth MP seat on the NRM ticket.

Ojaman’s legacy extends beyond politics, as he continues to promote Ateker values and ICU-NRM principles of leadership, gaining recognition across the Teso sub-region and beyond.
