The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has extended the normal registration deadline for candidates sitting the 2026 national examinations to 30th June, giving schools and learners additional time to complete the process without incurring penalties.
The extension applies to candidates registering for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
According to UNEB, late registration will begin on 1st July and run until 31st July 2026. Candidates registering during the late period will be required to pay surcharges, with PLE attracting a 100 percent penalty, while UCE and UACE candidates will pay an additional 50 percent fee.
UNEB warned that no registration will be accepted after July 31.
The examination body maintained the registration fees for private candidates at Shs34,000 for PLE, Shs164,000 for UCE, and Shs186,000 for UACE. Most learners under government-sponsored programmes will not be required to pay registration fees.
In a statement, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo urged schools, parents, and candidates to complete registration early to avoid last-minute congestion and errors in the system.
Odongo also warned against fraudulent practices, including schools allegedly falsifying sponsorship arrangements during the registration process.
“Normal registration has been extended to 30th June 2026. Late registration will run from 1st July to 31st July 2026 with a surcharge. No registration will be accepted after 31st July 2026,” the Government of Uganda posted on its official X account.

The extension comes after UNEB registered a record 1.4 million candidates for national examinations last year, reflecting a continued increase in the number of learners sitting for the exams nationwide.
UNEB further wished all candidates success as preparations for the 2026 examinations continue.
