STEVEN ARIONG: Keep Tugume’s coffee project out of Among’s saga

Steven Ariong

I am a bit disturbed by the section of Ugandans who are calling for investigations into Inspire Africa coffee projects run by an entrepreneurial young Ugandan, Nelson Tugume.

Ugandans need to know that Tugume started hustling with that coffee project without any help from government until when he had reached about 60% success is when President Museveni extended his support because Nelson Tugume, under his Inspire Africa coffee, was marketing Uganda’s coffee to Europe.

Apparently, Uganda’s coffee has been loved as the best in the UK because of Nelson Tugume’s effort in marketing Uganda’s coffee. Uganda is now the 10th coffee-producing country in the world, with much of the country producing the cheaper, more bitter bean, Robusta.

I would like to request Ugandans that instead of trying to soil the efforts of Nelson Tugume in marketing Uganda’s coffee, we should give him applause because even though government gave him a push funding, there is value addition seen in Uganda coffee, not like others who keep money in their bedrooms when Ugandans are dying of poverty.

In the processing coffee plant of Nelson Tugume, there are many Ugandans employed compared to two or three who are employed to keep money in the rooms of people.

I would like to advise Tugume, for the sake of Uganda’s coffee, please move far and block your ears from critics.
