National Thanksgiving Gathering Postponed, New Date Yet to Be Announced
Organisers of a national thanksgiving gathering have announced the postponement of the Thanksgiving service which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, 28th March 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds, citing unavoidable circumstances.
The event, spearheaded by Patience Museveni Rwabwogo, lead pastor of Covenant of Nations Church, was expected to bring together Christians from across the country for a day of thanksgiving following what organisers described as a peaceful general election.
In a statement, organisers said the decision to postpone the gathering had not been taken lightly but was necessary under the prevailing circumstances. A new date for the event is yet to be announced.
The gathering had been positioned as a significant spiritual moment for the country, particularly for the Christian community. It follows a similar nationwide initiative held in 2025 under the theme Light Up Uganda for Jesus, where churches across denominations united in prayer, repentance, and intercession for peace, stability, and unity ahead of the elections.
According to Pastor Patience, the March event was intended to return to the same venue, this time to offer gratitude for what participants believe were answered prayers.
“We felt it was fitting for the Body of Christ to come back and give thanks to God for bringing the nation through the election season peacefully,” she said in an earlier message.
Event co-ordinator Allen Kagina emphasized that the development should not be interpreted as a cancellation but rather a temporary adjustment to allow for better organisation and broader participation.
“This is not a cancellation, but a postponement to allow for better coordination and full participation of all key stakeholders. We remain committed to this national thanksgiving, and in the coming days, we shall announce a new date,” she said.
Another coordinator, Wilson Mugarura, noted that given the importance of the gathering as a national thanksgiving for the election period, organisers found it necessary to reschedule the event to ensure it achieves its intended significance.
Despite the delay, organisers say the commitment to holding the thanksgiving event remains strong, with further details expected to be communicated soon.
