Hundreds of young people gathered at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Tuesday to celebrate the 78th birthday of Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, through a sports gala organized by Gen Z for Gen7, a youth movement under her patronage.
The event featured soccer, American football, and lacrosse competitions, bringing together youth from different backgrounds in a celebration aimed at promoting unity, discipline, teamwork, and healthy living.
The celebrations were graced by Brig. Gen. Charity Bainababo and State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, who joined participants in recognizing the contribution of the First Lady to youth empowerment, education, and national development.
Throughout the event, members of Gen Z for Gen7 described the celebration as a tribute to a leader they regard as a source of inspiration and guidance for Uganda’s young generation. Speakers highlighted her longstanding commitment to education, moral leadership, and the advancement of opportunities for young people across the country.
According to organizers, the birthday celebration was not simply about commemorating another year in the life of the First Lady but also recognizing what they described as a legacy of service, humility, and dedication to nation-building.
Youth representatives praised Museveni’s efforts in championing education reforms, promoting values-based leadership, and encouraging young people to participate positively in the country’s development. They noted that many youths continue to draw inspiration from her message of integrity, faith, hard work, and service to others.
The sports activities served as a reflection of the values that participants said the First Lady has consistently encouraged among young people, including discipline, resilience, teamwork, and excellence.
As the celebrations concluded, members of Gen Z for Gen7 reaffirmed their commitment to supporting national development initiatives and promoting active youth participation in building a prosperous Uganda.
The event ended with birthday messages, prayers, and expressions of gratitude to the First Lady for her continued support and mentorship of Uganda’s young generation.
