State Minister for Microfinance and Small Enterprises, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, was one of the 41 individuals who received medals during Uganda’s 61st Independence Day celebrations held in Kitgum district. The event, attended by President Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo, and other dignitaries, recognized their contributions to the country.
One of the most notable awardees was Hon. Kasolo for his involvement in the Emyooga program, a Presidential Initiative on Wealth Creation and Jobs, which has positively impacted many Ugandans since its inception in 2019.
Hon. Kasolo, who leads the steering committee of the Emyooga program, has been dedicated to its implementation. According to the Emyooga report, he has reached over 20,000 locations in Uganda, teaching people the importance of saving. The report highlights that 205,710 Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) were mobilized, and 6,478 were formed, each receiving seed capital of Shs30 million.
As of July 2022, the report shows that Shs248.7 billion was released, benefiting 6,644 Emyooga SACCOs that received loans totaling Shs213.39 billion. These SACCO groups have also collectively saved Shs72 billion.
Vice President Jessica Alupo commended Hon. Kasolo for his efforts in transforming the country through the Emyooga program during a recent visit to Katakwi district, where she supervised the progress of Emyooga groups in the Eastern part of the country.
