On Tuesday, this week, Lapair Glasses Uganda opened a new branch in Kawempe, Kampala, boosting its presence to 19 outlets nationwide and 15 in the Kampala metropolitan area.
The branch, situated opposite the Shell petrol station, five (5) miles from the city, is part of Lapair’s drive to make professional eye care services more accessible across the country.
According to the company’s Public Relations and Communications Officer, John Hillary Balyejusa, the shortage of specialists in Uganda makes this expansion critical.
He noted that with only about 500 eye specialists serving a population of nearly 50 million, access to eye care remains a challenge for many, and by bringing thwir services closer to people, Lapair is working to change that, with the belief that good eyesight should not be a privilege but must be available to everyone.
The Kawempe outlet will provide free eye examinations, professional consultations, and affordable eyewear. Frames are priced from UGX 150,000, with affordable installment plans for customers who can’t pay at once.
Balyejusa noted that unlike other illnesses, eye problems often develop silently. “Most defects don’t cause pain in the early stages. By the time someone feels discomfort, it may already be advanced. That’s why we advise people to have their eyes checked at least once every year,” he added.
Lapair, which now operates in nine (9) countries, has steadily increased its presence in Uganda’s regions and is approaching a milestone of one million eye tests conducted in the country.
