A dark cloud hangs over Mbale High School after a fight between two students turned deadly.
The incident happened recently at Amber Stores in the Indian Quarters, Mbale City, when Akram Kairoki, a Senior Three student, reportedly got into an altercation with his schoolmate, Shafik Wasike, a Senior Four candidate.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation escalated, and Kairoki allegedly stabbed Wasike in the neck with a sharp object. The 19-year-old Wasike was quickly rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital by three of his colleagues. Unfortunately, he succumbed to excessive bleeding before doctors could save him.
Police later confirmed that Kairoki fled the scene and went into hiding in a nearby village. After days of search, he was tracked down and arrested earlier this week. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The death of Wasike has left fellow students, teachers, and the community in deep shock. Many have called for more guidance and counseling programs in schools to help address student conflicts before they escalate into violence.
Authorities have also urged schools and parents to emphasize discipline and peaceful conflict resolution among learners.
This tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of how quickly youthful disagreements can turn fatal if not handled responsibly.
