The Uganda Police Force has taken another step toward improving the welfare of its officers by distributing chicks to spouses living in several police barracks across the country. The initiative, led by the Directorate of Welfare and Production, reached families in Kira Road, Kireka, Nsambya, Old Kampala, Jinja Road, Masaka, and Gulu barracks.

The handover was presided over by SSP Godwin Ochaki, the Head of Production in the Directorate of Welfare, Production, and Sports, at the Police Headquarters.

While giving out the chicks, SSP Ochaki encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity. “We want you to fully embrace this project and use it to improve your livelihoods and strengthen the welfare of your families,” he said.

He noted that the initiative is part of the police leadership’s broader effort to support officers’ households and empower them through practical income-generating activities.

Spouses who received the chicks welcomed the gesture, expressing eagerness to put the project into action. “We are committed to making this work and ensuring it creates a positive impact in our homes,” one representative said. Another beneficiary added, “This support gives us hope and motivation to contribute to our families and to the welfare goals of the police force.”

The Directorate says similar welfare-enhancing projects will continue to be rolled out to uplift officers’ families and promote financial stability within the police community.
