MASAKA, UGANDA — President Yoweri Museveni has urged National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Masaka to focus on addressing the real problems facing citizens, including corruption, poverty, and the implementation of government programs.
Speaking at a meeting held at Masaka State Lodge, Museveni criticized some leaders for spending too much time in debates rather than tackling the pressing issues affecting the wananchi.
He emphasized that leaders should actively expose corruption in their constituencies, promote key government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), and reject divisions based on tribe or religion.
“Some leaders waste time speaking in Parliament instead of addressing the real problems of the people. Leaders must expose corruption in their areas and demand solutions,” Museveni said. “They should also not fear to speak about the achievements of the NRM government and must reject sectarianism based on religion and tribe.”
The meeting was hosted by newly elected Justin Nameere, who won her seat following a court-mandated recount. Museveni commended Nameere for her courage in insisting on the recount, describing her as a “muzukulu” whose actions strengthened the party’s presence in the opposition-leaning Greater Masaka region after the January 2026 elections.
Following the meeting, Museveni paid a heartfelt visit to his 95-year-old friend, Hajjati Bitamisi Namuddu, at her home. He greeted her family warmly and received blessings after helping restore property she had lost decades ago.
“From the leaders’ meeting at Masaka State Lodge, I passed by my old friend and neighbour, Hajjati Bitamisi Namuddu. I was happy to see her. It is always good to visit our elders and receive their blessings,” Museveni said.
