NRM Flagbearers in Hoima City Express Frustration Over Alleged Election Irregularities, Point Fingers at Senior Officials

NRM flagbearers in Hoima City have expressed deep frustration and disbelief over the outcomes of the recent elections, alleging that senior political figures and security officials interfered in the process, claims that remain unverified.

During a tour in Hoima, groups of young political actors supporting the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) said they were disappointed by what they described as unfair electoral practices that, in their view, contributed to the loss of their preferred candidate, Princess Diana Abwooli.

The group alleged that Abwooli, who had secured the NRM party flag to contest for the Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament seat, lost narrowly to Asinansi Nyakato of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), citing what they called the influence of security personnel and financial inducements during the campaign period.

They specifically mentioned Hoima City officials, including the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Badru, alleging that he played a role in activities that tilted the contest, claims that have not been independently verified.

Some of the supporters further alleged that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among was politically aligned with efforts that disadvantaged their candidate, although no evidence was provided to support the claim. The individuals also alleged involvement of Hon. Mary Grace Mugasa, who they claimed sided with rival interests during the campaign period.

In Hoima West, similar allegations emerged from the same group, claiming that significant financial resources were used to influence voter choices in favour of Ismael Kasule, whom they described as a close associate of senior political actors. They further alleged instances of cash distribution during campaign events, which they said influenced voter behaviour.

Both Kasule and Nyakato have previously been mentioned by the group as politically connected to influential figures, though these claims remain part of ongoing political disputes in the area.

Meanwhile, attention has now shifted to the courts after Princess Diana Abwooli reportedly filed an election petition challenging the results. Supporters say they are hopeful the judiciary will address their grievances, while critics caution that the matter should be resolved strictly through legal channels and evidence-based proceedings.

Authorities and the individuals named have not issued formal responses to the allegations at the time of publication.
