KAMPALA, Uganda The Uganda Police Force has issued strong statements condemning a series of violent incidents targeting security personnel during opposition campaign events, reporting multiple officer injuries, damaged vehicles, and one civilian fatality over recent days.

In the latest incident, which occurred in Iganga District on Friday, November 28, 2025, police allege that the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate incited crowds, leading to attacks on security forces.

“Security forces deployed to maintain public order and safety faced attacks, including stone-throwing incited by the candidate, resulting in serious injuries to officers and damage to several police vehicles,” the police statement read.

The situation escalated when officers moved to disperse what they described as “unruly crowds.” During this operation, a civilian fatality occurred. The police identified the deceased as Misaki Okello, an adult male. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence and are in police custody.

This event follows a similar clash earlier in the week. On Monday, November 24, during NUP campaigns in the Kawempe divisions of Kampala, security officers were also attacked with stones at three separate locations: the NUP headquarters, Bwaise Roundabout, and the main campaign venue.

That initial incident left seven security officers with serious injuries and resulted in damage to several security vehicles, including an ambulance. Police arrested seven suspects following those clashes.

In both press releases, the police emphasized that they had engaged in prior planning with event organizers, but these agreements broke down, leading to violence.

The Uganda Police Force has consistently labeled these events as “hooliganism” and issued a stern warning to the public.

“The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns this hooliganism and warns that confronting armed officers poses grave risks, will not be tolerated, and will face decisive action,” the statement from Friday concluded, echoing the firm tone of the earlier release.

As the campaign season continues, these incidents mark a significant and violent escalation, raising concerns about public safety and the potential for further clashes.
