the First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni, has contributed a substantial sum of Shs 50 million towards the realization of her late uncle’s long-pending healthcare initiative. The generous donation was made on Thursday, the 21st of March 2024, during a fundraising event aimed at financing the construction of the Kizinga Health Center II, situated in Ntungamo district.
The fundraising ceremony, coinciding with the celebrations of International Women’s Day, unfolded at the Kizinga Play Ground within Kizinga Parish, Ngoma Sub-county, nestled in Rushenyi County, Ntungamo District. This significant event rallied community members and stakeholders to contribute towards the completion of the health facility, which had been left in abeyance following the demise of its visionary founder, John Kazoora, a former Member of Parliament for Rushenyi County and uncle to Janet Museveni.
The envisioned Kizinga Health Center II aims to cater to the healthcare needs of the border communities spanning Ngoma Sub-county in Uganda and Nyagatare Sub-county in Rwanda. However, with its progress stymied by Kazoora’s passing, local residents found themselves compelled to seek medical services afar, often enduring considerable inconvenience and hardship.
Recognizing the pressing need to revitalize her late uncle’s noble undertaking, Janet Museveni, represented by Minister Alice Kaboyo, made a significant monetary pledge of Sh50 million towards the project. Additionally, Minister Kaboyo herself contributed Sh10 million, underscoring the shared commitment to realizing the health center’s completion.
In her remarks, conveyed by Minister Kaboyo, Janet Museveni lauded the concerted efforts of the local populace and leadership, urging them to diligently oversee the project’s execution. Reflecting on her own approach to governance, she emphasized the importance of addressing community needs comprehensively, citing previous initiatives undertaken in collaboration with local stakeholders.
The event garnered widespread support from various quarters, including Members of Parliament from Western Uganda, who rallied behind the cause and made substantial contributions. The collective endeavor succeeded in raising a significant portion of the required funds, with a remarkable total of Sh98 million collected out of the targeted Sh100 million.
Amidst the expressions of solidarity and determination, MPs reiterated the pivotal role of healthcare in fostering community well-being. Emphasizing the significance of accessible medical services, they expressed optimism regarding the transformative impact the completed health center would have on the region.
Margaret Rwebyambu, the Mbarara District Woman MP, seized the opportunity to urge residents to continually support government initiatives aimed at addressing unmet community needs. In doing so, she underscored the importance of collective action in realizing shared aspirations for a healthier, more prosperous society.
