Teen Star Uganda Empowers Women and Youth with Livelihood Skills in Rubirizi District

RUBIRIZI, Uganda — Teen Star Uganda has conducted a comprehensive skills and empowerment training for women and youth in Kicwamba Sub-county, Rubirizi District, aimed at strengthening household income management, family stability, and youth development.

The training, held in Rubirizi District, brought together members of the Rubirizi Women Creative Bee Initiative and young people from the community to equip them with practical knowledge on family life, personal development, and economic empowerment.

According to Madam Mukundane Scovia, Chairperson of the Rubirizi Women Creative Bee Initiative, the training focused on improving livelihoods and strengthening household income management.

“Participants were guided on family life matters, personal development, and economic empowerment. It is important to equip women with knowledge and practical skills to enhance their well-being and support their families sustainably,” she said.

Beneficiaries Madam Betty Karema and Tushabe Peruth expressed gratitude to Teen Star Uganda for creating employment and skills training opportunities. They noted that the training would help them better manage their families, improve hygiene standards, and support their children’s growth and discipline.

They added that they plan to apply the knowledge gained on family planning, responsible parenting, and effective communication skills within their homes and communities.

Meanwhile, Madam Elsa Shagerl, one of the trainers from Teen Star Uganda, outlined the broader objectives of the organization’s interventions. She explained that the program focuses on empowering teenagers — particularly girls — to reach their full potential and transition smoothly from childhood to adulthood.

She emphasized that the initiative prioritizes girls’ education and empowerment by sensitizing parents and guardians on the importance of keeping girls in school. The organization also promotes school-based clubs where both girls and boys can openly discuss issues affecting their lives.

In addition, Teen Star Uganda provides sanitary materials and education on menstrual health management to help reduce school absenteeism among girls. The training also covers sexual and reproductive health education, HIV/AIDS awareness, and healthy relationships.

Shagerl further noted that the program builds teens’ confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills through structured guidance and counseling. It also engages men, boys, religious leaders, and entire communities to create a supportive environment for girls’ empowerment.

Community leaders in Kicwamba welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in addressing challenges related to youth development, household poverty, and social well-being in Rubirizi District.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by Teen Star Uganda to strengthen community resilience through education, mentorship, and sustainable empowerment programs across the country.
