Six motorists are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in a collision on the Kampala-Jinja Highway, which occurred at approximately 3:30 pm on April 30th, 2024, in Bweyogerere, Wakiso district.
According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the accident involved multiple vehicles and motorcycles, resulting in significant damage and injuries to those involved.
The vehicles implicated in the crash include a white Toyota Hiace bearing registration number UAX 871P, two white Howo trucks with registration numbers UBK 849U and UBK 852U, and three red Bajaj Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers UGA 215N, UFU 127E, and UES 492A.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Hiace, driven by an unidentified individual, was exiting the Africa Oil petrol station when it lost control and collided with three motorcycles, trapping them between the vehicle and a stationary trailer.
Onyango stated that the trailer involved belonged to 50-year-old businessman Moses Kaama from Jinja city. He indicated that reckless driving by the unidentified Toyota Hiace driver is suspected to be the primary cause of the accident.
Following the collision, the injured victims were promptly transported to nearby health centers for urgent medical attention.
All vehicles and motorcycles involved in the crash were subsequently towed to the Bweyogerere Police parking yard for further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV). Onyango confirmed that police inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the incident and determine accountability for the collision.
