Ugandan Migrant Dies in Kuwait After Mysterious Illness

Shock and grief have gripped the Ugandan community in Kuwait following the sudden death of Douglas Nsereko, a migrant worker who had been in the Gulf state for only three weeks.

Nsereko reportedly developed a strange illness that caused his throat to swell abnormally, leaving doctors puzzled. Despite efforts by medical experts in Kuwait to save his life, the young man passed away unexpectedly.

According to colleagues, Nsereko had only recently traveled to Kuwait in search of better opportunities through kyeyo (casual migrant work). His sudden illness and death have raised speculation, with some co-workers alleging that he might have been bewitched back home in Uganda.

Medical authorities in Kuwait have not yet established the exact cause of his death. “The swelling appeared out of nowhere, and doctors could not find an immediate explanation,” a source familiar with the case said.

News of Nsereko’s passing has devastated his family in Uganda, who were expecting him to support them financially after beginning his new job abroad. Community members are now rallying together to find ways of returning his remains home for burial.

His death adds to the growing concerns over the safety and wellbeing of Ugandans working abroad, particularly in Middle Eastern countries where thousands of young people seek employment every year.
