“WORK WITH YOUR HUSBANDS” — Rubirizi Clergy Urges Women to Tackle Poverty and Family Conflicts

RUBIRIZI – The Archdeacon of Ndekye Archdeaconry, Ven. Canon Yorokamu Tayebwa, has called on women in Rubirizi District to work closely with their husbands as a key step toward ending poverty, reducing domestic violence, and improving household development.

He made the remarks while speaking to Christians during a ceremony held to welcome 10 women into the Mothers Union. The event was part of the celebrations marking Mariam Day.

Rev. Tayebwa emphasized that cooperation, respect, and love within families are essential foundations for development, noting that many challenges such as poverty, hunger, and domestic conflicts arise from lack of unity in homes.

He urged women to understand their roles in the family structure and to support their husbands in building stable households and educating their children.

“Women must respect and love their husbands, and together they should work for the development of their homes. This cooperation is key to ending poverty and domestic violence,” Rev. Tayebwa said.

He also encouraged the newly admitted Mothers Union members to serve as good ambassadors of the church by promoting moral values, strengthening family unity, and spreading the word of God within their communities.

Rev. Tayebwa further called on women to grow in faith and return to God as a way of restoring peace and stability in families across the district.

According to the Mothers Union leader for Ndekye Archdeaconry, Madam Tumuhirwe Claire, the union plays a vital role in training women on their responsibilities at home and in society.

She explained that the Mothers Union equips women with moral guidance, proper conduct, and counseling skills to help resolve family conflicts and restore broken homes.

“Our mission is to teach women their duties, guide them on morals and behavior, and help restore peace in families so that every home in Rubirizi can thrive,” Tumuhirwe said.

Meanwhile, Mothers Union members Alen Kayeba and Zaire Jennifer praised the training, saying it had strengthened their commitment to building peaceful homes.

They pledged to respect their husbands, promote unity in families, and work together for community development, noting that the teachings would help them fight poverty and domestic violence through cooperation and mutual understanding.
