When God opened the door for the lovely daughter of Teso to assume the office of Speaker of Parliament, the sky seemed to be the limit.
There was a song by an Iteso artist titled “Ijai So Oboro” — literally translated as “We Are in Things.” However, ever since the current saga emerged, that song is no longer heard being played anywhere in Teso.
Everyone who once danced to the song is now in panic, wondering what next awaits them, since the political fate of the Rt. Hon. Anita Among remains uncertain.
The most affected are the few individuals who treated Rt. Hon. Anita Among as their political lifeline. These include those working in her office, as well as some who previously worked with her but later left to contest for parliamentary seats after reportedly receiving full financial support from her during elections.
This group now appears unsettled and is pondering what their future will look like if Anita Among loses influence.
However, the majority of the Iteso people seem unbothered by the ongoing developments. Some even say that they only recognize President Museveni as their true savior rather than their local leaders.
One local resident confidently remarked that all the government projects brought to the Teso sub-region are initiated directly by President Museveni himself, without any input from local leaders. According to such views, whatever happens to the Speaker should only worry those who benefited from or celebrated the political tune behind the “Ijai So Oboro” song.
Currently, many Iteso people reportedly do not even mind if all the high-ranking positions held by leaders from Teso are removed, because they say they have seen little practical impact from those offices in their daily lives.
