Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO), the primary contractor for the 21km Kira-Kasangati-Matugga Road project, has fulfilled its corporate social responsibility by constructing two additional office rooms for Matugga Police Station. The facilities were officially launched during a vibrant event attended by the Matugga community, marking a significant contribution to local law enforcement.
Eng. Jude Kyobe, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) manager overseeing the road project, commended the positive relationship between the area police, the community, and the contractor. This collaborative effort has facilitated the smooth progress of the road construction, ensuring the security of both contractors and their equipment.
“Security for the contractors and their road equipment is always guaranteed with the existing good relationship between the police and the community,” stated Kyobe.
Kassim Kakembo, the in-charge of Matugga Police Station, took the opportunity to appeal to the community for cooperation in crime prevention. He encouraged residents to embrace the road project as an opportunity for securing casual jobs rather than engaging in unlawful activities such as siphoning fuel from the road equipment.
During the event, Reverend Michael Waswa, the parish priest of Lwadda in Namirembe Diocese, led thanksgiving prayers and urged police officers to find time for spiritual matters despite their demanding schedules. He also expressed gratitude to the CICO construction company for its support to the police and the community.
