Following the death of Dr. Jino Abiriga, the late former Masindi district health officer, police have released his children who were initially arrested in connection with their father’s murder. The three minors, along with their stepmother, Betty Cherotic, and her two biological children, were taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations into the gruesome murder.
Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, confirmed the release of Dr. Abiriga’s children on police bond. The decision to release the minors comes amid the continuing probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of their father.
Dr. Abiriga’s lifeless body was discovered on Sunday morning, bearing a stab wound to the back and a severed neck. The arrest of the late health officer’s family members, including the children, marked a significant development in the investigation.
Betty Cherotic and her two biological children remain in police custody as authorities intensify efforts to unravel the details surrounding the murder. The ongoing inquiry aims to shed light on the events leading to Dr. Abiriga’s untimely demise.
Dr. Abiriga’s body was transported to his ancestral home in Maracha district on Wednesday, where it will await final rites on Friday, marking the laying to rest of the respected former health officer.
